Android POS tablets are designed to run reliably during daily business operations. By default, Android devices automatically download and install operating system (OS) updates. While these updates are helpful for personal devices, they can cause unexpected interruptions on POS tablets.
To ensure consistent performance and avoid disruptions during transactions, we recommend disabling OS auto updates on all Android tablets used with the POS system.
Automatic OS updates can impact your POS system in several ways:
OS updates may install automatically and restart the device without warning. This can:
Interrupt active transactions
Temporarily take the POS offline
Affect service during peak business hours
Our POS application is tested and supported on specific Android OS versions. Automatic updates may:
Introduce changes that affect POS functionality
Cause issues with connected devices (printers, scanners, payment hardware)
Require additional troubleshooting or configuration
Keeping all POS tablets on the same OS version helps ensure:
Consistent behavior across registers
Easier troubleshooting
Faster support when assistance is needed
Please keep the following in mind:
OS updates often include security improvements
Disabling auto updates means updates must be applied manually
We recommend reviewing and applying updates only after POS compatibility has been confirmed
If you are unsure whether an update is supported, contact support at support@ehopper.com before installing it.
Disabling OS auto updates is recommended if:
The tablet is used as a dedicated POS device
The device is used during regular business hours
Stability and uptime are critical to your operations
It may not be necessary for tablets used only for testing or training.
The steps vary depending on your tablet’s brand and Android version. Choose the method that applies to your device.
Some Android tablets allow auto updates to be turned off directly in system settings.
Go to Setting on your device > Software update > turn off the toggle "auto download over WiFi"
Android provides a setting that prevents automatic system updates from installing.
Settings → About tablet
Tap Build number 7 times (until Developer Options unlock)
Go back → Developer options
Turn OFF:
Automatic system updates or Auto update system
This option may not be available on all devices. Check the user manual to identify how to turn off the auto updates on your device. Use POS tablets only for POS-related activities
Do not install OS updates during business hours
Test updates on a non-production device first
Contact POS Support before upgrading to a new Android version
If you need assistance disabling OS auto updates or are unsure whether your device is compatible with a newer Android version, please contact POS Support at support@ehopper.com before making changes.
Disabling OS auto updates helps keep your POS system stable and available when you need it most. By controlling when updates are installed, you reduce the risk of unexpected downtime and compatibility issues.
